Edited by: Douchie McNitpick on 05/11/2010 12:11:16 Dreads were never bad-ass and they should not be.
Of all capitals, they are nigh-perfect. Very limited anti-support capabilities while still being able to dish out insane amounts of damage. As such, they die to support while killing support-killing carriers very well.
Basically, if you boost dreads, you're making them too strong. The only reason they're completely obsolete is that super capitals are a straight upgrade over normal capitals. Get Moms/Titans back in line and leave the dread as the ship with the highest dps in the game. Problem solved.

Originally by: davet517 There are two reasons that they are obsolete. POSes don't hold Sov anymore, so SCs are in all ways superior to Dreads when it comes to shooting Sov structures, and, Dreads are sitting ducks for SC based fleets of any size because they're immobile and can't be RRed when they are in Siege.
If this change was made, it would put capitals back into big fleet fights again. Right now, they have no role. In big fights, people either ship up to super-caps, or ship down to BSes and Drakes.
It would just cement capitals online, giving even less reasons to fly anything less. This can not be the solution. The power creep is already bad enough with invincible roaming scap gangs that can not be countered.
Again, why do you want to upset the balance even more by boosting dreads, the effects of which will only result in an upward spiral of power inflation, rendering smaller ships even more useless than before? Gameplay was best before there were dozens of supercaps around and most battles resolved around a good mix of all ship classes with a focus on battleships. Nowadays, all the roles previously needed have been made obsolete by capitals.
Making large dread/carrier/scap fleets the standard modus operandi can not be the solution.
Previously, there were over a dozen different ship classes in warfare that were desperately needed. With supercapitals online, it's down to about 3-4, Supercarriers and Titans being the ones that are unbalanced. The solution is to finally drop the hammer on supercaps. Inter-class balance between other ships is working fine, so don't upset the balance even more by boosting dreads.
